Barely Two Stars for this one。。。 I really enjoyed the first two books in this series。 They were well written and the plots were tightly focused。 However, A Life for a Life opened with a scene featuring water torture, yes, exactly like that done at Black Ops sites and considered war crimes。 It is revealed that "good cop" Kate is watching a video of man being tortured by someone she is working with to retrieve information on a "bad cop" who may or may not have murdered her husband。 The murder of K Barely Two Stars for this one。。。 I really enjoyed the first two books in this series。 They were well written and the plots were tightly focused。 However, A Life for a Life opened with a scene featuring water torture, yes, exactly like that done at Black Ops sites and considered war crimes。 It is revealed that "good cop" Kate is watching a video of man being tortured by someone she is working with to retrieve information on a "bad cop" who may or may not have murdered her husband。 The murder of Kate's husband is a long riding story arc going back to book one so you don't want to read these books out of order。 The plot of this book, however, aside from torturing people, is a serial killer。 Kate and her team are having a tough time with this one so, I don't know, maybe they could torture some innocent witnesses and come up with something。 Nah, eventually they solve the crime and Kate goes on to murder someone else in the end。 Great cop story, right? Now, tell me again, who is the good cop and who is the bad one? Yeah, I don't know either。 What I DO know is that I won't read any more of Wyer's books。 Yes, I know there are crooked cops in this world。 Trust me, I know this。 What I don't have abide is fiction that makes the bad cop the good guy。 Nope。 。。。more

Wow this series just gets better and better。 Clever story telling and compelling characters that you grow attached to the more you find out about them。 Living close to all of the areas mentioned in the books makes them feel all the more real。 I love how the main story weaves in and out and intertwines with the current case。 There are not enough stars to give for these books。

Have I told you how much I love Carol Wyer's crime fiction? So good!! This is book 3 in the Detective Kate Young series and it might just be the best one yet! This book is a DNF in my library。 I read and reread the beginning chapters several times and cannot make heads or tails of it。 I’m sure this is a fine novel that most readers would enjoy but it just did not appeal to me。 I will not rate or review。

Really enjoyed this series! Not a huge fan of the final chapter unless there is a follow up book。 Could have left it at the final meeting with Dan the journalist and I would have been happier。 Great crime read though!

This is the third in a series but the first that I have read of Detective Kate Young。 I think the author does a decent job of giving some background so it can be read as a stand alone but I think I would have benefited in reading these in order。 I didn’t get a good enough idea of who Kate was as a character。 The writing is quite good was engaging。 I like the multiple plot lines, as since the main plot was quite obvious who the villain was。 Overall a quick detective story that definitely has me w This is the third in a series but the first that I have read of Detective Kate Young。 I think the author does a decent job of giving some background so it can be read as a stand alone but I think I would have benefited in reading these in order。 I didn’t get a good enough idea of who Kate was as a character。 The writing is quite good was engaging。 I like the multiple plot lines, as since the main plot was quite obvious who the villain was。 Overall a quick detective story that definitely has me wondering what happens next。 。。。more

Although this is the third book in the Detective Kate Young series, I felt that it was easily readable as a stand-alone。 With that being said, I absolutely want to go back and read the first two books, because A Life For a Life is a great psychological thriller showcasing the detective skills of Kate and her team and I have read that the first two are even better! For the reader, it is pretty obvious who the killer is from the start; however, there is definitely a twist to it that is revealed abo Although this is the third book in the Detective Kate Young series, I felt that it was easily readable as a stand-alone。 With that being said, I absolutely want to go back and read the first two books, because A Life For a Life is a great psychological thriller showcasing the detective skills of Kate and her team and I have read that the first two are even better! For the reader, it is pretty obvious who the killer is from the start; however, there is definitely a twist to it that is revealed about halfway through the book。 I think my favorite character is Samuel, the profiler。 He is so quirky and likable - reminds me of Lazlo from the old movie Real Genius (anyone out there know that one?!!) A caution that there are a lot of characters introduced in the first chapter, but if you stick with it, they become easy to follow! There are two storylines that intertwine together and make the mystery that much better。 And can we also talk about the cliffhanger that Wyer leaves us with! Another fabulous read by Carol Wyer。This book had me gripped from the first page and kept me gripped throughout。People are dying and there doesn’t appear to be a link at all。 DI Kate Young is up against it and find out who’s committing these crimes before more innocent people die。 At the same time she’s dealing with her own personal issues。I love this series Kate is a strong character with lots of issues herself that unfold with each book in the series。A great read

(Sorry, Jed Mercurio)The intertwined storylines made for an enthralling read and one where I really didn’t know what was going to happen next。 Out of all the crime series I follow, I can honestly say that none have mastered the cliff hanger ending quite as well as Carol Wyer。 The ending in this was jaw dropping – I cannot wait for the next in the series。I highly recommend this book, and the series, to fans of the crime fiction genre。Thank you to Carol Wyer for the review copy。 。。。more

In A Life for a Life, Carol Wyer has once again written a compelling crime thriller that offers a cracking good case while furthering the main character’s story arc。 I read a lot of books and believe me when I say that this is not an easy task。 But this author handles it with ease。 I’m not going to go into too much detail, because by this point, if you haven’t started the series, you need to。 Yes, the crime is pretty much a standalone。 So, you could read it for that and still enjoy the book。 But In A Life for a Life, Carol Wyer has once again written a compelling crime thriller that offers a cracking good case while furthering the main character’s story arc。 I read a lot of books and believe me when I say that this is not an easy task。 But this author handles it with ease。 I’m not going to go into too much detail, because by this point, if you haven’t started the series, you need to。 Yes, the crime is pretty much a standalone。 So, you could read it for that and still enjoy the book。 But what really drives this story is Kate’s determination, so start where she did (it’s only 3 books in, and you’ll be glad you started at the beginning)。 She continues to unravel a complicated plot that hits ever closer to home。 Great story, but highly recommend starting with book one。 For more details, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks。 This review was written based on a digital copy of the book。 。。。more

A Life for a LIfe is the latest Detective Kate Young story by Carol Wyer。 This is really a two part story, one part being the serial killer Kate and her team are hunting for, and also, Kate is still trying to piece together her husband's death。 The story is easier to follow if you've read the previous Kate Young novel, but Ms Wyer puts enough information in that mostly covers the past。 A Life for a LIfe is the latest Detective Kate Young story by Carol Wyer。 This is really a two part story, one part being the serial killer Kate and her team are hunting for, and also, Kate is still trying to piece together her husband's death。 The story is easier to follow if you've read the previous Kate Young novel, but Ms Wyer puts enough information in that mostly covers the past。 。。。more
